Hi! My name is Hans, and welcome to my literary oasis! Yes, I call this my oasis not only because of my love for reading books but also because I have lived in a Middle Eastern country (Qatar, to be specific) for over a decade. This site serves as my compendium of commentaries on the books I read.
This blog came into existence during a time where the world, in general, began experiencing the effects of a pandemic. Coping with what apparently is the new normal, I wanted to look for new hobbies to develop. For many years I already appreciated reading books, and thought of wanting to go beyond just reading them. I wanted to share with you my reflections about the books I read. Thus, this blog was born.
I would read almost any literary genre. My most favorite genres are speculative fiction (especially dystopian stories), historical fiction, nonfiction books and journals, and magical realism (most notably many of the works of Gabriel García-Márquez). I do have reservations when it comes to genres like romance and drama because I'm not really into those. In the future, there are other genres such as horror and science fiction that I would like to read as well.
Apart from my love of books, I do have a variety of other hobbies such as playing organ and piano music, learning different languages, debating, watching Japanese animated series, and doing radio calisthenics. I am also an incoming undergraduate student and will begin my university studies soon. In case you want to know my personality, I am an ENTJ (in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator), a Type 8 (in the Enneagram archetype of personality), and a Ravenclaw.
